Welcome, yes Mark races my old Ac Bristol. Really nice chap, you should if already done let the AC owners club know about the car. Have fun in the car, looks really nice.

Re: Natural Evolution

The second picture is my third hawk 289 fia which I built a few years ago. Reference modern cars, that is a worry. I know 60's, 70's and some 80's car's had different panels. I never worried that much, I spent most of the time doing the suspension work.

Re: Natural Evolution

Interesting, the last two pictures of FIA is from my last build. I always have 2-3 finger gap on the wheels when settled. It looks like from the pictures the wheels are nearly a full hand width. Way to high in my view (I know the next owner changed the shocks/springs, I wonder if the Toe/camber was ...

Re: Natural Evolution

When I built my first Hawk I wanted to change the rear arches, etc. But when I added up new wheels, paint, etc. was better to build another car. You can get the look of the race car, without the changes to suspension, etc. but consider the end result wanted. I do like the Sebring version of the Hawk...

Re: Confessions of a Hawk 289 FiA owner.

Yep, a lot of fun. I have four mini coopers a 1966 Mk1 - going to prepare for FIA standards and early 1962 car which will be just restored, a 1968 Mk2 which is being set-up as a track car. This car has always been with me, got an MED 1380, DCOE40, beam axle, light weight shell. The final one is anot...

Re: Confessions of a Hawk 289 FiA owner.

Nice seeing some of my old cars, my Hawk 289's are below 1. No.1 is Ian's car, this was a Le Mans 289, very nice paint job, actually has a 351w. Also has disc brake rear on MG axle. Looks like a cobra original disc's. Really great car, Ian is a lucky man. 2. No.2 I finished a car off that my good fr...

Re: Replicas? No?

My problem is anything modern (e.g. Material) will be different. I struggle when I see period vs modern times at a circuit that has not changed. Look at the following, In 1960's a cobra would lap goodwood in 1min 35sec, now in 2015 @ laptime of 1min 26sec. So does modern tyres mean 9 seconds a lap q...

Re: Replicas? No?

Interesting debate, we all know at the top end some are replica's and still get invited to the best events, FIA papers do not care the history. While at Thruxton we saw an original Lotus cortina works car destroyed. My daimler has the original body / chassis and bits that were raced in the 1960's al...
