Well, I accept that it must have happened. I can only assume it occurred on my car in the few miles/months before I bought it. There is now a 3 finger gap between rear arch and top of tyre. If the exhasut got an inch lower now I could plant crops in the furrows! A brief word of advice - if you find...

My springs (on the original Jag XJ6 setup) settled about 1" over the first year of use. You can get a good ride height with Gerry's spec, but as stated earlier this means screwing the dampers to the bottom of their adjustment, hence the need for helper springs, or shortening the damper as I suggeste...

That's what I'm running in the Mustang. The Cobra also has an aftermarket unit, but it's a slightly earlier model. Seems to handle the 310bhp of the 289 HiPo with no trouble. Seems the majority of T5s are called 'World Class' - this can mean everything, or nothing! The US forums will give the full l...

Roger, Ops, standard mustang gearbox mount not engine. , also even the best T5 WC would struggle under pressure over 270BHP in my view. I have seen a few T5 WC go bang. Most hot rodders do not use T5 gearbox [unless it is a T56] which costs a small fortune. John. Well, I'm running a T5 in my...

I don't think I understand the description properly, John - I have a standard engine mount for my toploader. OK, so the engine is in the correct position fore and aft, I'd guess - but not sure what you mean by 'standard' - standard for which car? Fairlane, Mustang, Falcon, Cougar - or Hawk? My Hawk ...

I think I'd have to sell the Hawk to buy the new Mallory! Well, the mech advance Unilite for a 289 isn't that bad - http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=MAA%2D3755101&N=700+4294925143+4294839065+4294881256+400249+4294908331+4294840071+4294881058+4294881253+115&autoview=sku...

The T5 or Tremec trans mount sits about ¾" further back than a toploader. Bit of welding and a file should do it OK. Interesting choice - why the toploader? 5 or 6 bolt bellhousing - and will a decent clutch fit?

Um...

...if your thermostat is sticking I would strongly recommend changing it, not just tightening the housing bolts! Thou shalt surely blow a hose that way, and verily disappear in a cloud of steam, possibly with financial implications... and to seal a thermostat housing, clean the surfaces, and use the...

I'd suggest a change of distributor - Pertronix are not totally problem-free.
I run a Mallory Unilite in my Cobra, and a Mallory magnetic in my Mustang. The Mustang's a bit recent, but the Cobra's done around 6,000 now and never missed a beat.

I eventually got rid of the helper springs by shortening the dampers by about an inch. Roger Corrosion on dampers is only really an issue if the chrome shaft is rusted. The test for dampers, of course, is whether or not they dampen! I have Gaz steel bodies on mine, about 5ish years old now and worki...
