As an aside those glass fuel filters are a known cause of many fires, they crack and leak fuel !!

When my rack became poorly I bought a new stock MGB rack and swapped in the BRA input shaft, mind you the input was in good nick.

Study the top pic and you will see the cap has a PCV valve in the centre and the pipe goes to the base of the carb or spacer. The other cover can have a breather to atmosphere.
