Re: 289 HiPo run in

A few engine builders have told me that once the cam is bedded in you should really put the engine under load (High gear, up hill) for a few hard pushes. Not to max revs though. This is to force the rings into the bores so that they are a perfect fit before the bores glaze over and cause the engine...

Re: Classic cars are not historic says FIVA

I cannot see thousands of cars being sidelined because of a u turn on Historic status. When a car reaches an age to qualify it moves from PLG to Historic. If this status is rescinded then the car would surely be put back to PLG and road tax paid. We should be like the French and burn some classics o...

Re: Disk brake options

Fluid wont boil in the reservoir, it will boil in the caliper and the resultant air/ gas will send the pedal to the floor. Super DOT 4 is not race only, I have used it for years in my 289. I run Rover SD1 2600 twin pot front calipers with a solid MGBV8 front disc and Sierra rear discs and calipers. ...

Re: Disk brake options

Super DOT 4 is the way to go, higher boiling point than 5.1, compatible and cheap as chips.

Re: Ali transmission tunnel

Not at all.
I use one every day for cutting curved shapes out of 1.6 and 2mm ali sheet, so quick and easy. Guillotine for straight cuts.

Re: Ali transmission tunnel

For cutting 2mm Aluminium sheet tin snips are not going to be suitable, the effort required is huge and as Roger has said the distortion will not be acceptable. The ideal is to use a plasma cutter, if you are doing a full build then the cost of a cheap one is peanuts and will save so much time and e...

Re: Ali transmission tunnel

Go to your local builders merchant and head for the cement shed, the pallets that the cement is shipped on are usually covered in a sheet of cardboard that is @2mm thick and @1m sq. This is superb for making patterns, for the folds just score 1/2 way through with a Stanley knife and it will bend. Wh...

Dave
I am afraid that I forgot.
Having now been reminded I will attempt to crawl under the car at the soonest opportunity.
