Re: Disk brake options

Andrew If you choose to go with BGC it would be worth me checking the accuracy of my set up before they machine the calliper mounting block. Memory says that the calliper might be mounted a tiny bit too far out e.g 1.5 mm Bearing in mind that the bolts all but locate the calliper without possible ad...

Rover gearbox oil

Rover recommended several different oils for the SD1 gearbox throughout its life but finished with Castrol SMX which I have used quite happily for 15 years. I thought it was time to perform a complete oil change rather than keep topping up but the Castrol SMX has disappeared from the market. SMX was...

Re: Disk brake options

Hi Andrew I used BGC at Wisbech which was Hawks supplier for the brake and fuel lines. They created a complete kit using Willwood 4 pots and Ali bell mounts. The discs are vented but who is going to check inside the wheel to see. At 298 mm dia they are the largest that fit inside 15" alloys. Caliphe...

Re: Copperslip on nyloc nuts?

Surprised the Haynes manual didn't help. I would have expected there to be loads of members with MGB set ups or ask Gerry for a torque setting. You should use a torque setting for uniformity, its just that the torque figure will be low enough not to overly squash the rubber gasket. I happen to have ...

Re: Carcoon Standing Up Well

Colin. Sounds like you need to waterproof the pit. I used Ruberoid Waterproofing paint designed for proofing cellars as it is intended for use below the DPC with up to 3 Meters head of surrounding watertable. Advantage of being white to brighten up the hole too. You will probably need to wait until ...

Re: Copperslip on nyloc nuts?

Personally I would never use any lubricant on a nyloc nut on the basis that you want the nylon to grip properly not increase its ability to move. I only use copper slip on potentially hot items and those won't be using nylocs. One assumes that it's the concern of potential vibration that might loose...

Re: BRA289 customized recreation

Did you know that the paint on the Bloodhound world speed record attempt car will be painted with special high speed paint which has dimples like a golf ball! According to the Sat Telegraph the paint is developed by NASA and also used by McLaren on their F1 cars. So maybe orange peel effect is not s...

Re: Another small milestone reached

Re: Import costs

Colin
The cheapest way is for you to need a business trip to the states and bring them back a luggage as I did.
There is a larger weight allowance traveling across the pond.
