Just a few thoughts I had earlier, what made you guys choose to build a 289 as opposed to a 427? Why do you think that the 427 is more popular by a country mile? I know some of you guys own or are building a 427, how does that fit in with the club being 289 orientated? Why cdid you chose the 427 over the 289? Looking at Barrys car, that's a hell of a lot of work to convert it to a 289 bodyshape.

Re: Why the 289?
For me, I love the excess of the 427.
Also, I wanted my Cobra to be as close as practically possible to original, so notwithstanding the aluminium suspension components, that meant an original style chassis. The 289 chassis with transverse leaf suspension was another fat wedge of cash that I couldn't afford. Although thinking about it, the extra cost of a 427 side oiler has probably cost at least as much.
I'm very happy with my choice and there's no escaping the fact that the Mk.III chassis is a MUCH better chassis than the Mk.II.

Re: Why the 289?
Personally, my preference for the 289 shape is because it is understated and more subtle. I think the 427 became a characature of a car with its flared wheel arches, and tends to attract the bling end of the market, side pipes, chrome engine parts, bonnet stripes, polished bodies etc. When you look at them you have to admire some of the work thats gone into them, but its not for me, far to flashy!

289 = Gentleman's sports car
427 = Bling Boy Racer car.
Simple.

Well, I`m more comfortable in a 289... or a 427 for that matter... prevert!StewbieC wrote:Seamed stockings or fishnets?

Re: Why the 289?
I love both variations of Cobra equally - both original and well executed 'rep, such as those that can be found within the Register.
I would suggest that it would be unfair to tar all 427 (original and rep's) as 'blinged up' monstrosities (though granted there are plenty of the latter out there).
I can think of at least two that are highly desirable, period evocative cars...
And one of them is sitting quietly in my garage downstairs, while the other (aluminium one) is located not a million miles away, just outside of Lutterworth...
289 or 427 - why not one of each?
