All Cobra fuel tanks are too small except when you have to fill them, then they are too big! :?
Cheers, Clive.

I used to have a problem with my tank, which is 30 years old, because it was too small. Then I measured the tank and realised it was bigger by 2.5 gallons than the amount of fuel I could get in it. I then measured the length of the filler pipe going in to the tank and I realised that the steel pipe was projecting 100mm into the tank. When I filled the tank the bottom of the pipe was submerged by fuel, no air could get out and the tank appeared to be full. We put an air escape by pass from the top of the tank into the top of the filler pipe, air now escapes and I can fill the tank fully which gives me about 10.5 gallons. That solved that one. I can do well over 200 miles on 10.5 gallons.

Last year I checked the fuel filter which I had not looked at for about 10 years, it was pretty clogged and I put in a new element and it is all fine. I didn't have any problems, I just decided to look at the filter.

My car very occasionally has a minor smell of petrol in the boot, I think this is common in the world of the Cobras, I know it shouldn't happen but I think it does.

If I were you I would take the tank out, clean it out, clean out all of the fuel pipes, make sure they are all petrol pipes, check the length of the filler pipe and how much it projects into the tank (remember that a BRA tank is wider at the top than the bottom so if you are not getting fuel right to the top of the tank you are losing a lot of capacity), put in an air bypass hose if needed, change the filter again and see how you get on.
