Well IVA was quite enjoyable and going well until speedo test. Turns out 70 on the speedo is really 73..... Will have to send back to Speedy Cables

Could have been worse, I guess!

Rolling road test for me in 2006.

35mph speedo reads 33
40mph speedo reads 39
50mph speedo reads 47
60mph speedo reads 56
70mph speedo reads 67.

I assume you have a mechanical driven speedo and not electronic.
Cheers, Clive.

(If I'm not here I'm in my workshop or on the golf course!)

Did it fail due to under-reading by any amount, or is it a percentage variation?
It seems all modern cars over-read by about 4-5%(compared to satnav reading) and I'm sure my FiA is over 10%, 70 on the satnav is 80 on the clock! (Handy really, as with the reverse-wind speedo on the passenger side, the first number I can actually see is 80!!!)

Yes it's the Smiths mechanical gauge from Speedy. Calibrated with the data I provided. No point blaming anyone just need to get on with it. The tester was actually very good and really liked and wanted to pass the car, allowing me to tighten a few things here and there and even providing an 11/16" socket I hadn't taken with me.

The speedo was under reading, not allowed by any margin, results:

Actual 35 speedo 35
41/40
52/50
62/60
73/70

Speedo can over read by as much as 57/70. All pretty obvious really and can't complain. Anyway speedo out and shipped back to Speedy this morning

Sounds like you were actually very accurate but just the wrong side. They allow +10% but no -0%
Hopefully Speedy can find the next best gear which won't be too far away from being correct
