289's in Modsports

Post by agnoraan »

Interesting little piece about the Modsport Cobras. The arches on these make the ones on my Viper look positively small

Seeing these Cobras with wide front ends doesn't make me feel quite so bad about mine anymore, I almost got away with it

That's a really great article you found, Nige, but as we all know, the COB cars they mention are completely and utterly AC, NOT Shelby!
I remember as a kid looking at the pics of the Taft & Richardson Cobras wth their huuuuuuge arches in ACOC mags which I still have, but that's the first time I've seen a colour photo!

Ian Richardson moved to Llangollen many years ago, where he built the Wildcat Rover-based engines, 6.0l and 500+bhp!
I always meant to go visit, but he retired around 2012, and a company in Deeside now produces his Wildcat heads.

Nik,
Did you really mean Rover engine? The article mentions Chevy 5.3L.
6.0L? I thought 5.4L was pushing the extremes of the newer 4.6 block let alone the older original variety.
As previously mentioned else where one of our members sprints a Rover 5.2 MGB.

Superb pics!
Peter. Yes, I meant Rover. Ian Richardson was making his own engine blocks and heads based on the Buick/Rover design. Sadly his website is long gone, but I found THIS.

Thanks Nik, interesting reading.
Quite a few road cars found themselves with overly large engines. Baby Bertha, DamFraud to name but two.

Nige I think car 82 must be a Viper!
