Re: 289 fakery case
- anyone know the chassis number? I am assuming this is a 'Brooklands special'?
Re: 289 fakery case
If its the FIA in the picture it's left hand drive, so might possibly be an American import

Re: 289 fakery case
That’s what I thought. In the US kits are titled as the year the original is from AFAIK.
I guess the DVLA just took whoever imported it at their word.
The chap should surely sue whoever tried to pass it off as a 64 car.

Re: 289 fakery case
If it was a genuine FIA car as claimed, then i think it would be worth rather more than that quoted.
Interestingly, the wording perhaps suggests he is largely disputing the historic status.
Stripping the car of its registration I guess means he would fall liable for an IVA test.

Me thinks this is the start of many.
Cobras are the most copied car around.
I think it highly unlikely that the DVLA will be seen as negligent.
It is always buyer beware.
I agree with Simon that he needs to sue the seller if it was not made apparent that the car was not a ‘64.

Re: 289 fakery case
Knowing the seller, there is no doubt in my mind that he made it quite clear when this was built and by whom, the problem is that the DVLA decided to retain the logbook, despite having issued it to the previous keeper.
There is more to this than is in the public domain.
