BRA register

Post by fredo427 » Thu Apr 05, 2018 10:16 am

Has anyone knowledge of the existance of a BRA register, or a list of BRA's fabricated and sold with some specifications (engine, colour, location, ...)
I'm trying to give some historic value to my BRA289, and others.

I have found some information and pictures on a few cars (BRA289 20, 56, 59, 70, 75, 80, 112, 115 ; BRA427 13, 30) through sale adds on the internet.
If you want to get your BRA known, I would appreciate it.

Thus far I found that there are at least 3 types of BRA289 : the mkI (up to 1987?), the mkII and the Tyler (1996-2000).
The difference between the 3 being the placement of the engine, and the gearbox tunnel (round for mkI, squared for mkII). I believe the Tyler is a continuation of the mk II.
Off course some of you modified their BRA.

Fred,
Sounds like you are trying to set up a data base register of BRA’s.
I have no knowledge of a dedicated BRA club. David Large May know as a BRA owner.

Why not try Gerry Hawkridge as a first stop. He worked at BRA for a while so there is an outside chance he may have some details to assist you.
Of course there is a possibility of you getting a few of our members to divulge details of their BRA’s if they see your posting.

There used to be a BRA "club" which produced its own newsletter - I may still have some of them. I am not aware of a register as such. I don't think Gerry will be able to help much other than in generality. I used to see Peter Ibbotson at Stoneleigh but not in recent years.

This club is working on a register of cars, which would cover all replicas including BRA vehicles. It isn't ready yet, but a prototype can be seen at www.the289register.com/car-register

When we make this live, you will have to be a paid-up member of The 289 Register to be able to access it, but the idea is that it will enable owners to build up a history of their vehicle over time, hopefully increasing the value to them and potential buyers in the future. The latest T289R News magazine has a piece I wrote about this.

Cheers,
Andy

I don't think the BRA website is kept up to date. I understood that the current owner of BRA has nothing to do with the BRA cobra (289 or 427).
They can't (or aren't allowed) to supplie a build manual for the cobra model.

Nice to see that I'm not the only one interested in the history of our cars.

I have the brief build instructions for the 289 - I would hesitate to describe it as a manual.

I would be very interested in the build manual. Can you send it via e-mail?
I assume it will help me what parts from what type of car were used in assembling my BRA.
Thusfar I found parts of Rover SD1, MGB, Triumph Dolomite
