Wire wheels

Post by Hamy-hoo »

Hi All,

Are there any 'stock' wire wheels that I could buy second hand that will fit the MGB splined hubs? I believe I'm looking for 15"x6" wheels which I've seen advertised on ebay for Jags etc but obviously I want to make sure they'll fit the splines and offset etc will be correct.

Many thanks in advance

Hi Hamish; TR6 wire wheels are correct. Usual fitment on them is 5.5X16 but some are the wider 6X16. You're correct, you need the 6X16 option. Jag ones wont fit the MGB splines.

Just to point out guys that the Cobra used 15” wheels not 16”
Your choice of course but you would need to check tyre profile to fit the wheel arches.

Oops, Need to wear my glasses more. Well spotted, TR6 and cobras wear 15 inch wheels not 16s as I initially quoted. Thank you for correcting my error.

Have a look on the MWS wheels website Hamish. They have a fitment guide that cover a wide range of vehicles.

Thanks everyone. I was hoping to find a less expensive option than getting straight from Hawk but it appears that's not likely.

£197 each from MWS wheels (6x15 painted grey) Chrome are dearer. How much are they from Hawk?

When I started, I spend quite a while looking for 'build wheels' but everything I came across on eBay was expensive and tatty. Took some advice from someone on here just to buy the wires I want from Gerry and be careful, and am happy to say they've survived my ham-fisted mechanicking during the build very well. Just be careful when taking spinners off that you don't drop them on the wires and chip the powdercoating off.

I bought from Gerry, who gets them from MWS. He was recommending Blockey tyres at the time for a roadster because they have a nice period look, which I agree with. Someone down the road from me thinks they perform very well too, but I don't think the people at Longstone rate them that well for performance (though possibly also because they don't sell them).
