Guys,
I have a ‘66 Ford 289 that I want to get rebuilt (clean up, measure, sonic test, re-bore etc).
Does anyone have a good machine shop they would recommend - ideally near Bristol, but anywhere in UK considered.
Alternatively, I’ve found two local possibilities; Ashley Engines or Price Brothers. Has anyone heard anything good or bad about either?
I’d much rather follow a recommendation than choose a shop simply from the interweb so any and all help much appreciated.
Cheers
Hamish
Machine shop recommendations
Re: Machine shop recommendations
Hi, I had a 2.5 engine rebuilt for my Ace and used http://cmesuk.com in Bracknell a good oily rag engineering firm I would certainly recommend them, if that helps?

I know it’s a case of how long is a piece of string but can you give me an idea of cost Ken?
Re: Machine shop recommendations
I had a lot of work done and ran out of time to build it, balancing, rebore, crank grind etc and it ran close to 4k including the build up.
Good luck with your choice.

Re: Machine shop recommendations
I used Roe Engineering in Fleet. They used to be on Kings Road but are now located here:

Another proper oily rag place. No website as far as I can tell. They cleaned and skimmed things for me, and honed the cylinders.
They couldn't do balancing of a Ford V8 crankshaft though, so I went to Bassetdown Balancing for that. More details are on the wiki here: http://wiki.the289register.com/doku.php ... g_services
By the way - if anyone has recommendations to add to the wiki on this subject, please do. Any issues, let me know!
Cheers,
Andy
