It Would Be A Waste Not To...

Post by clive » Thu Jun 27, 2019 5:45 pm

The 'T' Car was in for it's MOT this morning and I decided to take the long way home through Glenshee after picking it up. It would be a shame to waste all the warm sunshine and empty roads. According to the garage, it attracted more attention than the DB9.

Absolutely, and why wouldn’t it. A 289 from 1963 has more character than a DB9.

Clive, what’s the significance of the T?

It was never my intention to have the "T" on my car, I simply liked the colour of Richard Stubberfield's car, but when I first decided to go to Le Mans in 2008, some members were dressing their cars up for the trip. As one does when first interested in a particular car, you surf the net for pictures and models and I found this from Exoto, which was the same colour as mine albeit with the "T" on it.

A bit of research led me to the history of the "T" car which I liked so I had a friend make me some vinyl stickers for the trip and they've been on ever since. https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2014/07/0 ... -monterey/

I believe that the T was used on Shelby’s car for his race driving school car. I guess the publicity of winning a race brought on the desire to teach others.

A ‘T’ car is a widely-used term for a ‘Team’ car - a back-up car which is not set up for a particular driver but can be used by either (or any) team driver if their own fails or is damaged. As F1 is now a massively over-regulated yawnfest with strict rules around the use of replacement parts, let alone whole cars, the term is seldom heard these days. In the sixties and seventies it was common for a driver to fall back on the T car when necessary, with no penalty.
