Spotted at North Weald
Re: Spotted at North Weald
Patina must be earned, not added!
Re: Spotted at North Weald
Well,
Then I'm dead. I find the added patina look interesting. Saw a few years ago a Porsche 356 Coupe replica painted like 60 years old. Really not bad and just not the usual appearance.

Re: Spotted at North Weald
Most of us are building replicas of 1960s cars, so why not create the patina that a car of that era might have? A highly polished car with loads of shiny parts is pretty much a give away as is a modern registration number, whereas something covered in dust or in need of a lick of paint could just be the real thing...
Cheers, Clive.

I agree I think the patina car looks great, is interesting, in a row of perfect cars at a show that would get the most attention these days.
I even like the engine bay full of rusty water stains, reminds me of my early motoring escapades.

I saw it in a row of shiny, spotless cars and it drew me like a magnet. It looked like it had survived a hard life in the 60’s…..it looked magnificent!

Re: Spotted at North Weald
My B.R.A had not been painted since it was built in 1988, it was VERY scruffy. Pretty much every time I went out someone would ask if it was a real one.
Last year I treated it to a bare gel respray. Thinking about it, I just realised, no one asks any more........

As I said. It certainly creates discussion.

Had the same when my old Pilgrim looked pretty bad - loads of people talked, asking if it was a resto. Got paint: no one talked to me. Ever.
Re: Spotted at North Weald
I had already decided not to bother to repaint the front portion of my pebble dashed rear arches but now perhaps I won’t bother to clean the car for Silverstone and leave any bugs splattered on the front.

I never do Peter. From experience, washing my car before a 400 mile journey is a waste of time! I did wash it for the first time in almost three years before it’s MOT in November.
Cheers, Clive.
