Pre 64 on an MGB spline is 12 threads per inch, after that it is 8 threads per inch.
Go to the MWS site, there is a part there that tells the tyre fitter how to balance the wheels & tyres.
I printed this off last time, took it to kwik Fit and talked them through it, all is well !!!

Bill :o
I tried that but they don't have the gadget that grips the outer portion of the hub the way that the MWS document requires.
When I get my new spinners I am going to cannabalise an old spinner to make a suitable adaptor.

Unless the tyre fitter has the correct adapters/machine for wire wheels, which need to grip the hub in exactly the same way as the splined adapter (without splines) and the spinner, you're wasting your time (and money).
This means an inside base cone of around 45º, and an external location (cf the outer taper of the spinner) for the outside of the wheel.

Agreed totally, thats why I thought if I take an old spinner, bore a hole through it to fit the balancing machine drive spindle so that it grips the outside of the hub exactly as it does on the car (ie on the external conical face), and machine the right cone for the inner end of the hub.......all to fit my pal's balancing machine we can do my wheels and recover the costs doing others.

Cheers

You will need to get the hole in the spinner absolutely centred and machined to fit the shaft of the machine perfectly, and I suspect you'll need to 'beef up' the centre of the spinner somehow to make it strong enough. The actual device the correct balancers use is a big lump of metal on the outside. As the spinner is what locates the wheel radially, it's got to be true.

Spinner Price Update.

Post by clive »

Well Chaps,
Spoke to Steve Powis of Orson Equipment Ltd. this morning and asked what his price was. If we buy a minimum of 5 sets he will supply them at £24.00 + VAT = £28.20 each or £112.80 per set. These are a stock item and are Manganese bronze.
Comments please.
Cheers, Clive.
