Age old topic of valuations

Post by Dave Woodward »

I've just renewed my insurance with Adrian Flux with an agreed value of £50k.

Does the club still offer a valuation 'service' for members cars?

Thanks

Dave.

Hi Dave, I don’t think the club has ever offered a valuation service. They are reluctant to to be involved in case of any future problem. I would guess that it is because we are not insured for any potential issues arising in the future. The nearest we have had is a general view from Gerry a few years ago. It compared the differing models and specifications.
I don’t think you are far out with £50k bearing in mind you have just added a Ford lump. From memory Gerry suggested Rover engined cars were £3K less than Ford. I have mine at £45K at present but expect to request an uplift at next renewal so circa £47k.

My understanding of car insurance (having experienced a write off in the past with a "modern") is that the insurance company is obliged to put you back in the position, car wise, that you were in prior to the accident/write off.
So replace your car with a similar in terms of spec & condition.
So valuation is based on "what would it cost me to go to a dealer & replace my car".
Phil.
