Insurance Costs! How Much Do You Pay?

Post by clive »

I received my insurance renewal quote today and thought I would call a few other companies to compare prices. What an eye opener!

Currently I am insured with Chaucer Insurance through Adrian Flux. My policy is fully comp for both myself and partner. The car is garaged and used only for Social, Domestic and Pleasure. I have one year's no claims discount on this policy and my car is valued at £30,000. I am retired, over 50 (just), live in rural Perthshire and the mileage limit is 12,000 per annum.

The premium for renewing the policy is £405.00 which includes a £25.00 Policy Issue Fee and Motor Legal Protection. This in my opinion is extremely good but the other quotes were amazing to say the least!

These are a few of the replies I've had today:-

Hagerty Classic Car Insurance. When I told them how much my renewal premium was the guy said "Grab it with both hands! There is no way I can compete with that!"

Backford Bloor. Maximum mileage is 7,000 miles per annum! (I've done that in six months through the winter). When questioned why that was the maximum mileage they told me they don't cover the main car in the household :? I explained that this wasn't my main car and that for me to attend the Silverstone Classic will be about 1,000 miles for the round trip.

Footman James. For exactly the same cover as I already have the quote was an absolutely unbelievable £1,200.00!

So it shows, always shop around for insurance cover!
Cheers, Clive.

Clive

I am insured with Adrian Flux too, on a 5000 mile job, with European cover etc. Cost £325.80 for the year fully comp.
They also allow me to pay this on a monthly basis.

regards

Bill

PS I am a VERY young 49 !!!!!!

Ok

My car is an 19 year old BRA 289 (which I built) with a new specialist built 4 litre Rover engine.

It is insured through A Flux as it has been for all but one of the years of its life.

I have an agreed value policy - important definition - and cover for me and my mate who comes to Le Mans with me.
I have Motor Legal Protection, additional personal accident and "road rage" cover for me and my passengers!, and full UK & European Breakdown recovery. 5000 miles - premium £373.
At the milage you do Clive I think you have a deal but is your policy an agreed value policy - if not your £30k valuation is meaningless.

I have stuck with Flux bcause they give me service and I have never had cause to complain, but (touching wood) apart from a windscreen I have never made a claim. A lot of people on the CRC site dislike Flux and go for Backford Bloor, but when I tried to get a quote from them they were useless.
