Brighton speed trials video

Post by amulheirn »

Here's a nicely filmed video I just noticed via Thunder Road's Facebook page:

https://vimeo.com/152062208

There's a Daytona about 6 minutes through, but with odd modern-looking alloys... And a lovely old Mini.

True! I'd be buying one next, if I hadn't promised my partner a Frogeye Sprite one day.

Had a Frogeye, have a Mini - I wouldn't have another Frogeye in a hurry! Small, cold, slow, very draughty, and a complete pain to carry anything in - no bootlid, just chuck it in behind the front seats. There's no boot compartment or even carpet in there, so items all end up at the back tangled up with the rear light wiring. I've driven the Mini to both Luxembourg and Inverness (not the same trip!) with no qualms at all - Cambridge and back (30 miles) would be pushing it for me in a Frogeye!

I used to have a 1965 970cc Cooper S which I sold undeer pressure from SWMBO in the early 1970s. I had stopped using it and was quite happy to keep it in the garage until I could afford to put a new bodyshell on it. MRS L was of a different view.

I have tried several times over the years to see if it is still alive, I would love to get it back although I guess I am looking through very, very rose tinted glasses.

There's a 1071 MkI S advertised recently at auction, Bonham's I think, with a guide price of 24-28,000. But the 970 would be more than that as it was the FJ engine.
You probably didn't want to know that, did you David? Have you tried the reg. no. in the DVLA website search?

Not recently but I have in the past.

Last time I saw a 970s was at the NEC about 6 years ago and the guy valued it at £30k then.
