Hi

If your looking for something to cut back 'sh*t' in your paint or the odd minor laquer scratch then have a look at the 3m trizact 3000 discs or for less aggressive or finishing after 3000 use there 6000..

After this you will need to use a cutting compound on a Mop, I have there range of 3m perfect it cutting compounds, Start of with fast cut then onto extra fine then for the Ultimate finish there ultra fine...

I would really take some advice before you use any really abrasive products on your pride and joy...

IMO DA polishers are not as good as a Mop, but you are less likely to burn or polish through with a DA.

I thought the mop was just a type of attachment and DA just referred to the dual action of the polishing head. I.e. you could use a mop on a DA polisher. Is that wrong?

Your not wrong....

I have and all the Painters I ever worked with always called a rotating polisher a MOP... I guess its just name..

I have used a DA polishing Machine on a friends GRP Boat Hull, It took forever and made my arms numb and tingly after about an hour, There obviously better than polishing a 40ft boat by hand tho

I wish I had taken some before and after shots of 6116.. Apart from the Fish eyes, bits of sh*t, dry patches, she was covered in Micro scratches or Hand polishing swirls, After about 4 hours or two stages I have removed most of them out and I am almost happy with the look and finish. I think i am a Little OCD when it comes down to paint finish, Maybe another 5-6 hours may bring her up to a nice shine i am happy with.

I know your a fare few miles away but I would be happy to help you polish her up or show you some basics as long as you make good Tea..

All sounds good. I'm really just looking to aide the polishing and waxing exercise and get the very best finish I can. I'm not spraying and cutting back at this stage.

Mark, do you use a paint thickness gauge before you polish?

Thanks..

Still a few more little spots for finish off but she is now much much better...

I can highly recommend the 3M perfect-it iii range.. fairly expensive but it does go along way and is a very easy clean up after..
