I may be the only one who hadn't heard, but I've just read that John Surtees, the only world champion on both two and four wheels died a couple of weeks ago. A great loss to Motorsport.

Re: John Surtees RIP
I think you probably are.
There was a nice tribute at the Members' Meeting - Charlie March did a lap in the Team Surtees T70 Spider (which must have frozen him in shirt and tie), which I believe he completed in second gear. They also held a 'minute's noise' in the paddock, which was spectacular and a great way to salute a racing driver in my opinion. And the bike racers joined in, which prompted many a tear.
It is an absolute condemnation of our so-called honours system that vice-chancellors of polytechnics can get knighthoods for 'services to education', and there are civil servants out there with multiple knighthoods ('More or Less' on R4 spoke to someone with five), yet Il Grande John gets none. I now have even less respect for someone with a knighthood than I did before.

Re: John Surtees RIP
I confess that I only heard on Tues night and that was from a relative in Aus!
Yes JS was a wonderful example of talent in motorsport and will be missed.
