Castrol Oils

Post by peterc »

Just snippet of history.
In 1899 Charles C. Wakefield created a new company called C C Wakefield Company Ltd and created oils for trains and heavy industry.
Early in the 1900’s he took an interest in the then new aeroplanes and automobiles.
They realised that these engines needed an oil thin enough when starting from cold but thick enough when hot.
They discovered that by adding castor oil ( a vegetable oil made from castor beans) to the mix made the oil thinner when cold. They named this oil Castrol!
It wasn’t until 1960 that Wakefield Company became known purely as Castrol Ltd.
