If you have ever watched any of the classic sports car races you might have spotted a Bizzarrini 5300GT.
The sleek car designed by Bizzarrini himself who was talented ex employee of Ferrari. Bizzarrini designed the 250GTO and SWB when he worked for Ferrari.
He was another of those that fell out with Enzo.
So he went on to create his own company and design what he considered was an improved GTO.
I confess I thought the Bizzarrini was powered by a Ford lump as per the Cobra but no it was a Chevy. You may well know that the Chevy engine has the distributor at the opposite end of the engine to the Ford. This is fine until the designer decides to move the engine well back in the engine bay for better weight distribution.
On the race ( corsa ) version of the car the engine was pushed a further 40mm to the rear. This meant that in order to adjust the timing the mechanics had to remove a panel on the top of the dash board rather than via the engine bay.
The benefits of the engine being so far to the rear was that the car had an equal 25% of it weight on each wheel improving its handling compared to a Cobra.
If you have any desire to own one they have a seven figure price tag.

Interesting as it looks quite chunky in those pictures almost like an ISO Grifo ( he designed that one as well). I always fancied the ISO with the large rectangular bonnet bulge as it was the 7.0L version.
My recent issue of EVO shows the 5300GT as lower with single faired in headlights and a different tail treatment. Maybe there are different models. Is your photo meant to be of the GT model?
Of course they may well have adjusted it further for the corsa ( race) version.

My memory is rather faded but next question is which variation do we see at Goodwood Revival.
I think the lower sleeker one looks more likely.

My photos are definitely a Bizzarrini recreation to copy the original 5300GT Corsa.
ISO did have a A3/C which looks the same and pre ceded the 5300GT. It was created when Bizzarrini worked for ISO. When they fell out ( note the common thread here) he went on to create his own company hence the Bizzarrini 5300.
Either way I think these cars had an element of an eternal design life. Still looking good today 55+ years later just like the Cobra.
I’d love to have either stabled in my garage.
