Post by David Large »

Has anybody else signed up for the track day at Gainsborough on October 1st?

Track day at Gainsborough ? Presumably on Blyton disused airfield ( approx three miles from me ), I made the mistake of tagging onto one of these a few years ago in my 360 spider, mainly used for rallying and was covered in gravel, more like a kart circuit. May have changed since then though.

It is at Blyton and it is a new circuit, apparently. The day is being organised by the GT 40 club, rather like the recent event at Donington.

They have invited the 289 register and I have signed up for it, I thought I would see if anyone else was going?

I had a search for this last night, a new track was built earlier this year, there is a website and a couple of youtube clips which are quite interesting. Very close to me so will have to give it a go. Will be usefull for testing my car when complete.

What are they charging for the trackday ?

I'm very interested and I'm penciled in. I'll be deciding for sure in the next week or so.

If I wasn't in Cornwall that weekend I'd have dropped in, either as a spectator or in something more mundane ( if I was allowed ). Would have been good to see the GT40's. ( as well as any Cobra's of course )

Its only 8 miles from home so I think it would be a little churlish not to put in an appearance! However, I'm undecided whether to have a go or not - I'm still not entirely happy with the brakes, it requires a lot of pedal effort to stop the thing . It may be I'm just used to servo assisted brakes on my other vehicles but I'll know better after I make further adjustments this weekend.

I think it is living on a diet of "modern car brakes". I find my 289 brakes very heavy and lacking feeling but they do work well - when you get used to them. A bit like the steering I suppose - modern cars spoil us.
