For those of you going to the Le Mans classic later this year I thought I would start a thread to capture people's plans for getting there. I haven't booked anything yet but would be good to rendevous en route if the opportunity presents itself.
Dave.

Re: 2012 Le Mans classic travel arrangements
Due to the Tour de France date clash (I read somewhere traffic in the Le Mans area could be heavy and disrupted as a result - could well be wrong) Morag and I are going to head over to the Netherlands for a couple of days beforehand in the trusty 'Stang, hopefully take in the Louwman Museum in the Hague and visit a family war grave relating to an exploding Lanc before taking a couple of days to head down through France. We'll also have a few days touring France on the way home, so this post is probably not a lot of help, on further thoughts! Sorry...

Re: 2012 Le Mans classic travel arrangements
Hi Dave,
We have not really thought about it yet except to say that we have to be at the Chateau on the Thursday arriving at about tea time.
We normally go through the tunnel so for me the options are
1) Stay in Kent on Weds night, go early through the tunnel and drive straight to Le Mans
2) Go to France on Weds lunchtime and split the journey at a place we know south of Rouen on Weds night and saunter down to Le Mans on Thursday
or
When I get chance I am going to look at ferry crossings to see if there is anything useful there.
cheers
David

The TDF will be going from Rouen to St. Quentin on the Thursday, so away from the area. Actually I will have them coming against me when I am driving to France from Belgium, but for sure not on the "Autoroute". Good to see from this thread who will be coming!

John,
I think this matches our planning pretty well - we may join up with you.

Re: 2012 Le Mans classic travel arrangements
Now booked onto the Normandie Express 'fast cat' from Portsmouth to Cherbourg. Looked closely at the timings to/from Folkstone et al and the South East departures just don't work for us. Navigating around London to head back up to Manchester on the Monday evening is just too long a slog.
Therefore, our plans are now:
Outbound: Portsmouth -> Cherbourg
Departure - Thur 5 Jul @ 09:00
Arrival - Thur 5 Jul @ 13:00
Return: Cherbourg -> Portsmouth
Departure - Mon 9 Jul @ 12:15
Arrival - Mon 9 Jul @ 14:15
Total cost £223.00
If this suits anybody else, will be pleased to hear from you.
Cheers.
Dave.
