Selina and I are going to the Chantilly Arts & Elegance show in September. Is anyone else going, or fancy going?

Re: Chantilly
I'm afraid so Roger.
We've been given a pair of VIP "access all areas" passes.

Re: Chantilly
The Chantilly Concours was a terrific event with some really stunning cars. We met a couple of chaps over from America who were showing a 1938 Alfa Romeo 2900 8C, that just happened to walk off with Best in Show.
There were a number of concept cars from some manufacturers including BMW, Aston Martin, Citreon and Bugatti, which were really impressive and there was an excellent turnout of cars from the French AC Club including a lovely early 289 Cobra.
I'll post some pictures over the next few days.

Re: Chantilly
Stop calling it 'Concourse' Paul...it's "Concours d'Elegance" which is French for 'Competition of Elegance (and Style)
Thank you!

Re: Chantilly
It depends what is being judged. Most modern 'concours' events are actually 'concours d'état', judging the condition of cars of which more than one was made. 'Concours d'élegance' judges the style and elegance of one-off coachbuilders' work on a single chassis. The distinction is mostly lost these days, and 'concours d'élegance' gets used to judge the relative shininess* of a field full of mass-produced BMC stuff.OCD wrote:Stop calling it 'Concourse' Paul...it's "Concours d'Elegance" which is French for 'Competition of Elegance (and Style)

It's always possible the event was held on the concourse at Chantilly...
*if that wasn't a word, it is now.

Re: Chantilly
Sorry, it's the damned auto-correct on my iPad.
Roger is correct, the Chantilly event is a Concours d'état.
The Dino has been brilliant, comfortable, smooth, room for luggage and it makes a glorious sound in tunnels. Even a 1.5 hour traffic jam on the Route Peripherique in stifling heat didn't phase it, which was more than could be said for the chap in a 250 GT California that gave up on the entry ramp.
The Dino is even winning Selina around.

Re: Chantilly
That's impressive. There's no sterner test for a classic than the massive heat soak resulting from hitting a traffic queue after having had the taps open for a while on dual carriageway. The sudden relative stasis of the coolant combined with the lack of air flow is much harder on the cooling system than 10 laps of the Nurburgring. I guess with the mid-engine configuration the Dino had to be well-sorted out of the box, really. As for the 250 California, a 3-litre V12 with sixties cooling technology is never going to be very effective!Paul Blore wrote:The Dino has been brilliant, comfortable, smooth, room for luggage and it makes a glorious sound in tunnels. Glad Selina's beginning to enjoy it.
