Uneven low speed running

Post by chrisb »

Have had poor idling and uneven pickup from low revs in traffic. (Rover 3.5 with two SU's and Piper cam) so fitted new condenser and points to Mallory distributor, but points pitted quickly again. I changed coil, ballast resistor and fitted another condenser but no better. A friend suggested plugs (newly fitted when I bought the car in February) and they were all gapped to .035" as used by many modern cars. On resetting to .025" the improvement was immediate such that it will even run at 30 mph in fifth gear. The car has always had plenty of urge at higher revs but now is a delight at all speeds.
