Evening all,
So tonight, I took out my new pride and joy for an evening drive and before I did, I took it to refuel.
Can you see what's coming next?
To my horror, I'd put in 2.45 litres of diesel before I realised.
Remembering distant advice from days gone by, I then proceeded to fill up with the correct fuel; 70 litres of it to be precise, in addition to the 10 litres that were already sloshing around in the tank.
Now, my car has an engine that is 40 years old (this is my 'new' 911), and has Bosch fuel injection. I would estimate the ratio of diesel to petrol to be no more than 3%.
In the wisdom of fellow members, should I be calling the Samaritans?

When I was a very young lad, (more than half a century ago) I used to help my father deliver paraffin to the neighbouring villages. He had a Standard 10 pickup which had a very inaccurate fuel gauge (PeterC) and quite often it would run out of petrol. A quick pint of paraffin in the tank would get us home albeit with a pinking engine.
Modern engines with exhaust sensors and engine management computers will detect if it has been misfuelled and shut down or go to limp mode but older ones with no ECU should run with a small percentage of diesel in the petrol. Just keep topping the petrol up to dilute the diesel and it should be OK.

Thanks chaps - I've spent a sleepless night berating myself for such stupidity.
I dropped a quick message to my ace spanner man Richard Hodson, who has suggested that it does need flushing out, just to be safe, especially as it's on injection, so sadly, my momentary lapse of reason has just cost me £250.
I think the abbreviated terms for this is FFS!

I suspect you're absolutely right David, but I just want to be 100% sure, especially having fuel injection.
I feel like such an idiot - I know it's very easily done, but nevertheless...

Couldn't you find some drums & syphon it yourself, then use the petrol in the mower, hedge trimmer, motorbike etc...?

Did you keep the fuel? A friend of mine filled her Merc with diesel instead of petrol and it cost £250 to have it drained and flushed, she then had to re-fuel with petrol which cost another £100 and didn't get to keep the diesel. Total cost was around £450!!!

Truth be told gents, I'm in two minds what to do, as there's a wealth of advice that suggests 'leave it, it'll be fine and save yourself an unnecessary £250' and then there's the other perspective that says 'you're seriously considering running a high performance, fuel injected engine on contaminated fuel for 400 or so miles; are you out of your tiny mind?

If only I lived closer...I'd turn up with 3 25-litre drums, a hosepipe & wouldn't even charge you!
