IVA: Labelling switches and telltales

Post by KevinW »

One of my IVA fail points included the issue of switch and tell tale labels. I;d used the sticker sheet from CarBuilder solutions, and this was deemed 'temporary' and likely to peel off.

Can others tell me what they have done to get round this issue?
thanks, Kevin

Hmm!

I used old-fashioned Dymo label tape. The type you punched each letter out individually. I thought it looked more 'period'. Didn't produce any comment from the inspector where I tested.

Google "car toggle switch labels"
Cheers, Clive.

Clive - brilliant - thank you so much! I'll go ahead with that - should be beyond reproach.
Andy - dymo labels might have been OK, and happy to do that. But given the VIN plate failed because it had 'England' written on it, then I really don't want to take any chances on failing at 2nd attempt and back for a third attempt at a cost of yet another £250 for pick-up and trailer hire.

Quite! Just interesting how different inspectors have different takes. The IVA manual just says the switches must be labelled so they aren’t confusing (from memory). Seems to me that your guy was adding in his own extra requirements that aren’t in the IVA manual with regard to the type of label, and how permanent it is!

Are you going to return to the same test centre?

I used the same sheet from car builders and he didn't even mention it! Interpretation! Good luck next time around. It may be worth contacting him to test what he would deem appropriate!

Thanks John. I am aware that many, many people have passed on the CB Sticker set. I even know of one case where handwritten labels on masking tape passed. Given the extensive list i have to work on, it would be very useful to contact the examiner in advance to check what is acceptable. Do you know how to do that? I live 70 miles from Gillingham so 'popping in' isn't viable.

Just a thought.
Gerry had a very good relationship with the Gillingham test Center as he lent them a car to practise on for SVA.
I reaped the benefit of that in so much as the tester knew more about my car than I did.
So perhaps Gerry can suggest what is acceptable for the labels as he must have used them not too long ago.

Isn't it amazing that you can get these from the USA for half the price than it costs from the UK! :(
