Wiper motor pins

Post by simonjrwinter »

Can anyone ID the pins on the back of the hawk wiper motor for me please?
Also the wiper loom colours. I’ve looked at the diagram nut they just tell you the colours and not what they do
Thanks
Simon

Simon,
I can offer the wire info immediately but which pin is which on the motor connection will have to wait until I can crawl under the dash as it’s out of sight.
Black - Earth
Blue/ Light green - 2nd Speed
Red/ Light green - 1st Speed
Brown/ Light green - Park
Green - Ignition live.

OK the good news, I have managed to get back out from under the dash. The roll bar brace has proved a life saver when you are upside down and head in the foot well and trying to get back out!
My loom appears to have the wires already connected to the correct style plug to push into the wiper body. Colours not a perfect match for Gerry’s wiring list but should be obvious anyway. Eg the greens are darker.
Looking at your photo you have the single vertical pin to your left. Good as that’s how it appears when viewed from below.

So the left single pin is the black connection.
Top left should be brown/ green.
Bottom left should be blue/green
Top right should be green
Bottom right should be red/ black ( well it looks black rather than green)

Hope that helps.

If it doesn't work first time you switch on, give the connector a firm shove.
I foolishly bought and aftermarket connector which needs intermittent 'help' to ensure the park function operates.

Very strange
All connected up and working fine apart from I have intermittent wipe on both speeds.....especially odd as the wire for the 2nd/higher speed bypasses the relay completely and goes directly from the switch to speed 2 on the motor!
I’ve run a separate Earth lead to the Earth terminal on the motor.
The intermittent relay is wired “in line” with the motor wiring so everything (constant live, Earth, speed 1) loops back to the motor while sp1 (from switch) and intermittent (to motor) are just single wires. I’m very very confused

Ok
If I test the relay with it in the circuit, but UNPLUGGED from the motor. With the switch at speed 1, I get a constant 12v from the switch and an intermittent pulse (as I should) from the terminal that goes to speed 1 on the motor, however, when I plug in the connector to the motor and then take readings, I get an intermittent pulse going out AND COMING IN FROM THE SWITCH!!!!!
Any ideas?

Surely any intermittent function should be in parallel to the motor not in line. You either chose to power it continuously and when switching off the power the parking circuit takes over. Or a separate supply via the intermitant switch which will start and stop the motor as per the timer.
Suggest you try it without any intermitant relay to check it opearates correctly before adding an delay function.
I’m not an electrician but merely wired up my wiper delay as per the instructions that came with it.
Did you not gave any?

Thanks Peter,
Without the relay in place everything works as it should. It’s wired up as stated in the instructions and the relay works fine.....until you plug it in to the motor....
I’ve taken the switch out to check it’s wired correctly....
