I understand that standard Jaguar xj6 axles need narrowing from their width of 60” to fit the Hawk, but to what width is it narrowed?
Thanks
Simon

Simon,
Sorry I don’t know as Ward Engineering supply it already modified to suit Hawk models. Likewise if you wanted the outboard brakes version they can modify the correct axle to fit the Hawk.
You might be lucky and get Gerry to advise the dimension if you want to modify it yourself. You would need good engineering facilities to ensure correct alignment of cut parts and of course good quality welding.

Re: Jaguar rear axle width
I’m not going to attempt it but may have access to an “S” type axle which is only 55” across

Re: Jaguar rear axle width
Where would you be measuring the 55” as Gerry has special hubs made up with the correct MGB splines. I don’t know what Jag used.
I could try measuring mine if I can get in with the tape measure.

Re: Jaguar rear axle width
I’m pretty sure the measurement is taken from the mounting face for bolt on wheels. Not sure how this differs from the mounting faces of knock on wheels....

Re: Jaguar rear axle width
Simon,
I have measured my axle but only as far as the outside of the bearing dust shields. Beyond that the hubs will be different in so much as the knock on wheels do not sit up against a flange but against a taper. You could possibly estimate the dimension from dust shield to face of standard bolt on wheel.
So my dimension is 1287mm or 50.66”. It is a amalgamation of several dims as you can’t get one straight line but should be within 3-4 mm.
If you added an inch each side you would be at around 53”
Hope that helps.
