Ford Toploader Yoke Seal

Post by Dave Woodward »

Does anybody know how to identify the correct seal for a given Toploader tail and where best to source?

The current seal which has been weeping for a while is marked 1.5 x 2.5 x 0.375 but I want to be sure it’s the right one before I replace it. Also looking on Jegs or Summit I don’t seem to be able to find anything with these dimensions.

Thanks.

Dave.

Is he responding to contacts these days? I tried for ages when I was looking to install a toploader, but gave up after several months - and anyway, an ally-casing T10L came along. Possibly the single-most expensive component I've ever bought....

IIRC all toploader tail shaft seals are the same, and also cross over to the C4 auto. The proper one has an extra external lip. A lot of times why these weep is because the white metal bearing is also shot. Hauser Racing will have both.

If all else fails, try the Sunbeam Tiger Owners club - they have a lot of toploader expertise.

A Tiger toploader fits a Cobra beautifully, although the rear gearbox mount needs a bit of work as the Cobra and Mustang chassis brackets are completely different.
I think Gerry fits Mustang brackets to his chassis, though, to get around this.

For illustration only. The correct seal is not a generic single lip type.
