Towing eyes

Post by peterc »

I thought I would share a bit of info with all.
If you are unfortunate enough to have a breakdown that can’t be fixed roadside the AA will NOT tow you with a soft rope if you are on a dual carriageway or motorway. You will only be recovered by a flat bed truck.
They only accept a solid bar type connection for towing.
I assume this means the type of towing eye provided on a modern vehicle to which they can attach their bar.

The good news is that they have a design of flat bed that can be lowered almost totally down to the floor so winching on can be from the lower wishbone and the rope clears the front valance. Learnt this on Sat night unfortunately trying to get back to the hotel from Silverstone. Timing for a flat bed truck is very long!!
