Swivel fuel connectors

Post by Dave Woodward »

I recently purchased an inline fuel filter from Summit that has male connectors at both ends and a 90 degree elbow at one end. I noticed that the end with the elbow swivels about its axis and does not appear to be lockable.

Are such swivel assemblies safe in fuel lines? This was to go in the engine bay but I’m not comfortable re future failure of any seals in the swivel.

Thoughts?

Do you not have a Filter King in your engine bay?
Cheers, Clive.

Hi Clive.
That was removed when the SBF went in.
I have a filter under the boot but thought I’d add one into the bay whilst working on it.

When made to AN standards they are safe.

My car has a Holley carb which needs 7psi fuel pressure and the Filter King reduces the pump pressure to that. As the name suggests, it incorporates a filter.

I used to run a filter king on my original Rover block. I now have a separate pressure regulator in the bay and a fuel filter just before the fuel pump under the tank.

What is it about the AN standard that makes these swivel joints safe for fuel.

The AN standard includes a pressure test for hose assemblies. Aeroquip fittings are made to this spec, I couldn't say if the Chinese stuff is though.

Throwing in my penny worth. I have used swivel connectors when purchased as a specific type of connector and needed on hydraulics E.g. high pressure. However on the balance of peace of mind etc I think that I would want a solid joint on petrol. I have always used BCG who supplied the original parts to Hawk.
They are top of the ethanol problem.
Bearing in mind Clive's comment what are you going for pressure regulation?

I've got 'em on my efi at 40psi. From Torques (ebay). and they look good too. No leaks yet.
