I can't Post pics on this forum because I'm not a T289R member but keep in mind that the piano hinge is covered with the leather or vinyl. You don't see the hinge

Did you use aluminium for the lid? No worries with warping there...
If using ply it should be 1/4" thick with a slight overbore around the lock hole.
Yes, I agree the front face leather should go over the hinge and be clamped to the dash by the hinge.

Lid was steel bonded to ply I side.
Loads of pictures show the hinge but I do agree the front leather is supposed to cover it hey ho it'll do
