Quite pleased with my boot, which I finished this afternoon having found the correct 1/4" Whitworth set screws for the hood stick and jack handle retainers. Also had to turn up an aluminium conical spacer to help locate the spare wheel fixings centrally. The turning was OK, but the parting off was a b*gger...
It seems a shame to have all that nice shiny aluminium and clean white spare wheel well with neat, tidy new Lucas wiring, only to have to shoot silver paint over the whole lot. The price you pay for originality...
...I also had to drill out all the rivets to remove the rear bulkhead panel so that I could crease it both sides of the fuel filler tube (see Rinsey Mills' Original AC Ace and Cobra), just visible in the photo. "They were all like that, sir."

Re: Boot
Twelve years ago when I sold up my ironmongers business (which had been in the family for three generations), I threw out hundreds, if not thousands of Whitworth, BSF and BA nuts, bolts and set screws, along with UNF and UNC ones. This was in the days before I got involved in Cobras and American engines. If only I had known then what I know now.
Cheers, Clive.

So our German chums DO have a sense of humour
Perhaps we should get a few of these jackets made up with T289R logo to replace "The Anorak" award. Just a thought
