Orange rear indicator required if first registration is after Sept. '65. No SVA required.
As far as I know, SVA is SVA. Year of registration will be same as SVA.
Certainly in the UK, if your car requires SVA (as most builds do), the rear lights need to be visible from the side.

The Lucas L542 will not pass SVA on Radius issues either! :(
Still a very interesting article and a different way of doing it from the other ones I've seen.
It just goes to prove there is more than one way to skin a cat!
Cheers, Clive.

I have done that four years ago with no problems but it was in Germany. Anything else as PM.

Migge, you must have had a very very friendly TUEV inspector then!
Red indicators is a absolut no these days! No more small numberplates for Harleys also. Very strict on that! You have to spend a lot of money to change US Imports to orange indicators and big numberplates. They don`t discuss things any more.
(But I know somebody who still got a self adhesive plate for his E-type last month, so it is all down to personal contacts)

I hope he is still working when I'll try it again in two years. :D

I know, but it depends on the county too I think. I have a very small plate at my 427 (Moped) because: there is no other space and place as at the corner, right or left to mount it. Otherwise it will interrupt the airflow for the radiator and the oil cooler :D

It is Karl. 8)

Quite an ingenius solution Migge - very impressed. I have taken a slightly different route to this as I liked the uncluttered look at the rear with no amber indicator lights making the stop lamp flash to indicate turn direction, like the old cars did.

The lucas solution is to buy and wire into the loom an LB10 relay. Stafford Vehicle Components supply these at a cost of approx £80 but I decided as the relay would be hidden to adopt using components from Maplin (2 x 10amp DPDT Relays + small plastic box) bought from Maplin. The relays cost £4.35 each and the box was £0.98. If anyone wants more detail I have a small Word Document that is in the process of being written that tells you how to wire them up and fit into the Hawk loom.

One problem I foresee is that when you have an MOT, any car that is registered after September 1965 then they must have separate amber flashing indicators, so depending on your MOT guy you may or may not get away with this modification. I plan to get around this by having temporary amber indicators I can fit to the rear bumber for MOT if necessary.
