BRA289
Hi I'm new to this, I have just brought an unfinished BRA 289 replica and need some advice if anyone can help me. I have to sort the steering out first, my question is can I use the Mgb steering column ? Will that get through the IVA test , any advice would be a great help. Raf

Re: BRA289
Wecome Raf.
The MGB column will need shortening and there should be some BRA bits to create the lower portion of the column. I will be able to provide better information at the weekend.
Getting a BRA through the IVA test is of course possible but probably not easy.
We built our car in the 1980s and put it on the road in Feb 1989 - pre SVA, IVA and all that sort of thing.
Whereabouts in the country are you?

Hello Raf,
It's not only IVA (you need to download a copy of the IVA M1 class) off the Directgov website. Just google IVA manual and loads of info there.
Registration also a big issue. Unless you have original receipts of all the bits fitted you will have little chance of an age related plate, if that is what you were after.
Sometimes I wish people would ask first rather than later.

Otherwise get in touch with JRV8 in Ballymena he should have a source. Have you tried the usual Rimmer bros etc?

Re: BRA289
They pop up on eBay with regularity, although not cheaply.
If you're not totally committed to using the Sherpa (as I know several people do not rate the shift mechanism) you could consider a shortened SD1 remote.

Re: BRA289
On the members register of this club there are 16 BRAs but I know that at least 2 no longer have these cars so we have 14 out of 160 members. I would guess that something like 100 kits were sold - don't know where the rest are.
