Got my new toy!

I am running my Midget with poly bushes now since 5 years and I am very happy with them. Nylatron are very hard and normally only for the race track. Some of the rubber bushes already develop tears, when you press them in, also when properly lubricated. Poly is also much more easy to replace, if needed.
Other opinions and experiences welcome.

Ditto - I have V8 rubber bushes on mine, now done 6,000 miles with no trouble and pinpoint handling.
I would never use polyurethane bushes - I have seen too many cars with cracked or stressed suspension components from the extra strain induced. If you're going to strip your suspension every few weeks to check everything, as in a race car, OK - but for many miles of road use it's rubber all the way!!

Things are going quite well now. I've managed to get 40 hours build time in since Xmas, here are some pics:






If all goes according to plan, the engine & 'box will be installed later this week. The windscreen should arrive by the end of next week so if I can keep up the current workrate I should be applying for SVA early Feb to get a date before the end of April

I'm hoping she will be there, but probably wont be painted - the budget was blown weeks ago!

Those pictures bring back memories. I hope all goes well with your dates. Don't worry about paint yet, I drove mine around for months in it's gell coat. It's amazing how many people asked what the colour was!

Hi Karl, I assume you mean the louvres? The outer edges of the fins are nicely rounded, I thought they would be ok? Thanks for the tip anyway.

Further update on progress: After agonising for some time over whether my 4-speed toploader was the right choice of box for the car I decided to bite the bullet and go for a 5-speed. So I've just bought a Borg Warner World Class T5 USA and McLeod Bellhousing from Real Steel before they put the prices up again due to the cr*p exchange rate. Only problem is the clutch pivot is on the wrong side of the bellhousing. Not a major mod, just a case of welding a new socket for the ball pivot in the right place and the engine and box will be in the car in the next few days. The only major component I'm waiting for now is the windscreen which is on order with Brasscraft and should be here next Friday.

I've also downloaded an SVA application form off the VOSA site and will be posting that off tomorrow to hopefully try and get a test date around the 20th April. That gives me another 13 weeks to get finished.

Anyone want to buy a toploader and bellhousing?

Not sure what you mean by the pivot being on the wrong side of the b/h - be aware that in fitting a T5 you have to convert the T5 clutch lever from being a 'puller' to a 'pusher'. Gerry has the bits to do this, which are the same as when converting a classic Mustang to a T5, so are available from the US Mustang specialists.
