I'm guessing from the look of it that the relevant core plug can be accessed with the engine in place...

I hope the others will stay dry.

Sod's law Peter?

Dismantled the right exhaust and headers to get more space for pushing the new core plug in. I just had no chance to only push it in a milimeter or two.

After an hour try I gave up and got the genius idea to measure the plug and my bore. I googled and found out that the bore should be approx. 37.85 mm to 37.95 mm and the core plug for this bore should be 1.5" aka 38.10 mm. That's what I ordered: 38.1 mm plugs! (From Limora Karl!)

My bore is 37.75 mm !! and my plugs are all 38.65 mm!! So my bore is smaller than expected and my plugs are bigger than expected and as they should be. That's 0.9 mm difference!!!!

I hope to get the second set today and I'll measure and see what size this one has.

The core plugs should be 38,32 to 38,45 mm. Where are you measuring? They are conical. Are your block holes smooth? Perhaps you need to sand them down a bit? The plugs will need a big hammer to go in!

My block holes are like new and clean Karl. The plugs should be 0.2 mm or 0.3 mm bigger than the holes, not more. I don't want to ruin the block by using too much raw power. You can't mounting a 14" tire to a 15" rim.

Migge,
As you say Sod's law again on the sizes.
I agree that you should not need to use excessive force to get them in. I have only ever fitted Ford pressed steel cup type units into a cast iron block and they slid in with a relative moderate amount of hammer force. I used a dolley that was machined to suit the bottom internal dia of the plug. This allows the O/D of the plug to shrink accordingly to match the hole and prevents you from distorting the plug when knocking it in.
Good luck with the 2nd set.

Cheers, Clive.
