Engine hoist with sufficient reach

Post by Dave Woodward »

Does anybody have any experience of an engine hoist that will actually reach the engine from the front with body on.

I need to remove my engine to check over the clutch following the recent run to LMC22 and am looking online. Not convinced any have a long enough reach.

Cheers.

Dave.

Dave,
I used the Draper 1 tonne fully extended to lift in an almost fully dressed SBF and T5. Body on. On my own. So it can't be too hard.
( I do have friends but was too eager to wait!)
Also had a load balancer which helped massively. (I'd take off the balancer handle next time and use a ratchet and socket as it got in the way on full tilt.)
If you're lifting in with body on you'll need the jack with the flush front wheels. I also used a ratchet strap to hold the legs together as I had the car wheels on.
I'm pretty sure it was on the limit at 250kg capacity. Just take it slow and easy.
I just used plywood and old towels to protect the paintwork from the jack at the front and the front edge of the engine bay.
I did sweat a lot but it was worth it.
