Some FIA related progress at last!

Post by simonjrwinter »

Finally managed to spend a bit of time on the FIA. Finished the rear master cyl to rear brake line and front master to 4-way. Will finish off the front in a day or so. After that I’ll fill and bleed the brakes and if there are any leaks……there will be a bonfire! 😜
Probably best not to mention all the times it went wrong……

Some good work there Simon, installing brake lines with an engine in situ is a right PITA!
Great job!

Nice! Very tidy. :-)

I haven't quite finished my car yet (hoping for an IVA in the spring), but it makes me want to have a crack at a second build already! :-D

Yes, I don’t understand why it wasn’t done earlier. The PO has done a really nice, meticulous job on everything he’s done on the car, I don’t know why he didn’t do this earlier (before engine/box install)
As we moved house in March I’ve been really busy working on the house/garden that I’ve had almost no time to work on the car. However, I’ve installed the brake lines a thousand times over in my head!
Fortunately, once I got down to it, it wasn’t nearly as daunting as I’d built it up to be 👍

What engine do you have? I notice that the mounting has a gusset to re in-force it. I have just added similar to my Rover engine mounts.

It’s a fully rebuilt rover 3.5 with a mild cam and Stage 1 heads and LT77 ‘box.
I also have a stage 1 tuned 4.6 (will refresh) and a T5 which I may put in at a later date (post registration) along with a Jag IRS.

Well, I think I can report success in the braking department. After making the rest of the front circuit I filled with fluid, bled the system and it all works! Difficult to do with engine/box in but not impossible. Put the front wheels on, spun the wheels while my (long suffering) wife tried the pedal. Wheels stopped and released fine….phew!
Of course, the car is unfinished and up in the air so the real test will be when it’s on its wheels and driving……
