Hi Andy,
Are you using the Mr Gasket 14" x 2" filter? (Real Steel part no. BY1480A)

Re: Painting Project
Also you might want to check whether or not the Performer RPM and the Performer 289 are the same height.
Re: Painting Project
The 289 manifold is meant to be 20mm lower than the RPM manifold hence thought that would solve the problem. But wit the period correct cleaner assembly it still touches. I am however still using the filter it came with - orange with holes - which I is 2 1/8" high. Changing it for the 2" high one would clear the bonnet (by a few mm) as it is currently only just touching. Thanks Clive.

Re: Painting Project
If the air cleaner is really an issue, there are plenty of 'drop-base' options in the US aftermarket.
Just trawl through the hundreds of options on the Summit Racing website.
You can't run a yank V8 without using Summit!
Real Steal are utterly useless in comparison, not to mention expensive...

Re: Painting Project
Was using a 7/8" drop base filter with the RPM manifold but it was choking the engine at high revs (air cleaner lid to close to the top of the carb). The combination of intake/filter is there, I just need to find the one that gives me the best results!
Use summit on a regular basis as I tend to be state side at least once a month. Have goods shipped to hotel - saves postage and import duty!

Re: Painting Project
Finally the job is finished, custom made base plate, the rest standard K&N parts.
Clearance check according to method: "Dr. King", but with :Blaetterteig. I leave it for you to find out the english verb!
In my opinion, specially the air flow from the top, is a better solution.
