I know this car first hand and it's a real beauty
But £43K is too much in my opinion. £35K/37K would be good, beyond that ?????????
Perhaps that's why it's not selling.

Didn't Roger get more than £42 for his slab side 289.
Yes, his was a meticulous and immaculate build quality but had been used far more than Ed's car.
I believe that there is a lot of ali fabrication inside this car making it look extremely accurate. Built by John Abel ?
I think now is just not the right time of year to be selling. Needs to be early in the year when weather is improving and the wealthy have yet to spend their bonuses
Perhaps there should be a ratio between the real ones and and good copies. At £40K its only 3% cost of an original!
I see RM Auctions are looking for £1.1 to 1.4 million for a converted 289. e.g CSX 2430 started life as a basic 289 in Vineyard Green with black trim when it left AC. No mention of larger wings or race body.
So this is a well modified and well raced car but still not an FIA shape.
We all dream on.

Correct I built this car, my last 289. No.4 that I have built. It was very special, did not cut any corners.
1. The car has an MG rear diff, limited with harden half shafts. Can take well over 400BHP
2. The interior is hand done, actually by Ex-Ac employee.
3. Engine is a 408 Stroker, with WC T5 gearbox rated for over 500BHP
4. Front brake is 330m from Hi-Spec
5. Peg drive, not spline. This was a pain, but well worth it
So nice car, would be very surprised if it got 50K, this is well over build cost. I could nearly build a kirkham for that value or by an Ac Aceca for another 15k. Since the last Hawk, moved on to other cars.My SP250 is my "special car", but I have a little collection containing 3 Ac's Ace Brooklands, 1 Aceca Brooklands, 1 MGA, 1 Mini Cooper Mk1 (1966) and 1 Mini Cooper Mk2 (1968), Austin 7 1934, land rover series 1 80inch and a few pre-65 trial bikes. So have my hands full, would like to build another Hawk, but need to finish my other projects first. especially the Aceca Brooklands which is going to be a beast. I have a little 427W engine going in, will be mad. If anyone wants the full detail on the FIA Hawk, just shout.

Not by some significant margin I'm afraid. Kirkham prices have increased significantly over the past couple of years.hawk289 wrote:I could nearly build a kirkham for that value ........

ebay is not the place to sell cars like this, and at 21,000 it didn't even reach reserve. They need to be placed with a specialist and you need to take the long view - it took Alan B several months to sell his, but eventually the right owner found it at a sensible price.agnoraan wrote:This was up for sale again last week & only reached £21,100
