Insurance is the real issue.

Get a third party claim against you on a car with any mismatch of documentation and you will be at severe, severe risk.

It is up to the owner to declare modifications. Clearly an MGB Or ford convertible or jaguar that now looks like an ACCobra is at significant risk of insurance annulment and therefore potentially significant damages claims

I supply my insurer with a complete specification (describing the build, detailing the bits used and updated every time I change something), photographs, a copy of the letter from the DVLA etc. My car is not worth £50k, but I do understand the insurance potential difficulty, hence I keepthe insurer fully informed.

Sadly it's not a 289, but rather a RAM 427
It's fitted with a supercharged jaguar 4.2 V8, with a manual gearbox and power steering. It needs paint and interior, but is IVA'd and fully road legal.
