90 deg oil filter adaptor

Post by agnoraan »

After the hose coming off the remote oil filter and puking the whole contents of the sump over the engine bay and underside of my car, does anyone know where I can get a 90 deg oil filter adaptor for a Rover or small block Ford ( I believe they will both fit?) Alternatively, does anyone have a used one for sale?

Thanks in advance

I would try Europa specialist parts - they quote a 90 degree filter element mounting. Alternatively Reel Steel would probably help.
Is this instead of having a remote unit with hoses. Surely you just need decent hoses. Professional machine made end connections for the hoses should prevent such dramatic failures. Having said that if the hose end fitting had a bulge on the end and a decent hose clip is used you shouldn't have had any issues. I have previously used push on fittings with any leaks.
Hope that helps.

Hi Peter, yes this is instead of having a remote filter. At the moment the oil lines are mounted to fittings with a serrated surface, but for some reason, even the good quality jubilee clips that are used seem to constantly need tightening once the engine gets hot. It would probably be cheaper to get proper connections fitted to the hoses, but I'd rather have the filter mounted to the engine as it's one less thing to have to contend with. Europa have the adaptors to mount the filter to the engine for £150, but I'm trying to see if I can get them cheaper elsewhere, but thanks for the heads up, it's appreciated :)

You don't need to get hoses "professionally" made. Get your pipes and fittings from Torques UK (http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Torques-U-K) on eBay and you can easily make them yourself. I've used them on all of my fuel lines without any problems or leaks.

I had hoses for my Healey's oil cooler made up in braided by the local JCB agent. Lovely job, but one blew off on the climb up the Gotthard pass... same result, but thank heavens for the big orange lamp I fitted right in my line of sight.

That's not very reassuring is it, given that the oil pressure would be well below the hydraulic pressure in a JCB system.

My thoughts exactly. Even the best Healey oil pumps do not produce several hundred psi.
