Hi
New to the group, I'm looking for a 289 slabside me and my dad used to have, it went to Sweden around 2005 to a guy who had it around a year then he moved it onto the uk, John Abel originally built it, ref number was MRD 761J any help would be amazing, as I'm looking for a 289 but can't seem to find one like that. Photo attached of dads old car.

The car is listed twice on the members database, both times with current members.

Is it a "done" thing to approach the members to see if they would be willing to sell ?
Also to see if they would post any photos of its current form ?
Thanks
Sam

Are you the same Sam Thomas Racing that run that fab Aceca? Love that!
Good luck finding your old car, but if you can`t, there is this one at Bradley James Classics, plonk on a hardtop, job done!
Formerly owned by Roger King, a 289Register member, who assures us it`s a good `un.
I wouldn`t be offended if someone asked to buy my car...that`s how I ended up with it...but be prepared for a few knock-backs!

Thanks ! Yes thats me, i learnt how to race in that car, now onto other things, we are currently building x2 427 cobras one is the remnants of a car that crashed at Spa in belgium and a 289 which my dad used to race with John Atkins which was a COB chassis car, anyones free to visit anytime we are down in waterlooville, Hampshire, kettle is always on. I hope so, i really miss that car, but if it comes to it will have to buy another 289 slab side, does John Abel still get involved with 289's ?
Thanks for the tip on the 289 i will check them out after work !
Would be great to see the above cobra though..

Aah, I wondered where that Atkins Cobra went!
We spoke briefly at Silverstone last year, will come & bug you a bit more next time!
Best of luck with all projects.

You're quite right Alan, well spotted.catsx11 wrote:Three individual cars with very similar plates,
the above car's number plate is slightly different to the registered ones.

Seems like Reading is a popular place to register 289s
Cheers, Clive.
