Mathewsons Auctions have a Hawk in their latest auction. It's lot 493 on 18th March. Suprisingly low estimate.

Seems very low estimate, do they have a habit of that?

If you are interested in the 289 at Mathewson then suggest you check the V5. Always nervous when they still mention MG which of course was the donor. May well have been built pre SVA but the V5 must mention that it is a Hawk Cobra and not just MG. Several BRA’s still had the MG element mentioned in their description.
I notice that it uses wheel nuts and not Center lock so for original looks there would be a cost to convert.
If bought near to that quoted then there is plenty of scope to modify.

Does say MG, are you saying that when you apply for the new V5 they may come inspect it and decide it isn't an MG? Then what happens?

It's SORNed as an MG HAWK 289 first registered June 1966. No MoT history .
So presumably it would be registered as Historic when owner/address is changed. Why would anyone bother putting car on SORN if it's registered Historic with no tax or MoT required?? Seems odd!?
Otherwise at anywhere near that price it looks a bargain!!
Phil.
