...the price stayed at $20k and it was closer to home. Perfect next project - fire up the annealing torch!

Re: If only, if only...
Surely someone will bid more than that even if it does need £10k or more to renovate.
It will happen in the last 12 hrs I guess.
As you say it's a long way away. How much to import £2500 + tax?
I assume import duties would be reasonable on that low value.

I fear it will go for a lot more than that. But 10k restoration costs would barely touch it, I'm afraid. Paint alone would take most of that, let alone steel tube repairs and aluminium work, timber frame etc. More like 70-80k, even with doing a lot yourself.

...And with current values being just south of your resto costs....not looking too viable for a full 'back to new' job. At least the engine appears to be ok, that would be 10 grand alone to rebuild!
I can`t see it staying at sub- $40k in the auction, (which allowing for import costs probably equals £40k), but would you have to pay import duty to return a car home?
BUT. A 'necessities only' work-over, keeping the barn-find finish could be do-able...

Yes. You'd have to pay import duty and declare NOVA within 14 days, woe betide you if you don't. And the best bit - VAT on the duty! How fair is that?nikbj68 wrote:...but would you have to pay import duty to return a car home?
