A mould was taken from the buck on the bonnet

Image

Gelcoat and fibreglass matt were then laid into that

Image

This produced the scoop itself, seen here in etch primer

Image

The underside of the bonnet had been sprayed in a stonechip finish by the previous owner, so I took the opportunity to sand it off and paint it in body colour. I painted it in a satin finish as the moulding of the underside of the bonnet is quite ripply. Being satin, it wouldn't show up the ripples quite so much

Image

the underside of the scoop was smoothed out and also painted body colour. I made a small lip around the front opening to replicate a folded edge that you would have had if it were aluminium. I painted that in Wimbledon white to match the stripes on the top side

The point of no return

Underside of the bonnet painted

Riveted to the car

Nige, looking even more period Modsports.
I can’t remember if you have the conversion to use Ford rocker covers on the Rover to help with the pretence that it’s a 289. Of course you can’t do anything with the angle of the dizzy.

Been busy making filter tops and bases for the Weber 44 IDF's. I've decided to fit the Webers instead of the 40 DRLA Dellortos as they're bigger and more suited to the bigger engine going in. I'm also fitting "Gurney Weslake" valve covers, just as GPG4C ran in the Modsports series back in the day. It'll make a change from the normal "Cobra powered by Ford" covers. I took the decision to run the K&N's as I don't really want my engine having a"rebore" whilst driving by sucking in dust. I know people run mesh filters on these carbs, but they'll only really stop children and animals being sucked in, I wanted to offer a bit more protection. If showing the car, I can always remove the filters if needs be ;-)

A quick question, would you??

A...polish the aluminium filter tops
B....give them a brushed finish with a Scotchbrite pad
C...sand blast them for a "cast" finish look

Hi Nige,
Glad to see things are progressing well.
i hope the title of the posting is no longer true and the new carbs do fit well under the new bulge.
My choice would be ‘B’
Decision based on Modsports not having any bling so ignore A and as for C being cast that infers it’s thicker/ heavier which they are not, plus the cast finish would more difficult to keep clean.
Just my opinion.
When does the bigger engine arrive or is that what the manifolds are already mounted on?
